Improving SorareData Pick Scores
We introduced Pick Scores last spring to help SorareData members choose the best cards for their SO5 lineups. Using a number of different inputs, our proprietary algorithm assigned a grade (from AAA to F) for each player within a specific competition based on their position, their team’s odds to win, the player’s starting probability, form and scoring history, as well as their expected score compared to their L15 costs for capped competitions.
While we were excited about the introduction of Pick Scores, we knew they could be improved, which we’ve already done a number of times. However, we feel this latest update will be the most meaningful one yet. And, with that said, we’re excited to announce that we are introducing a major change to the Pick Scores computation, which we believe will better reflect expected statuses for upcoming fixtures.
Some of the feedback we received concerned positive Pick Scores for players who were likely to not be in the starting lineup for their upcoming match, or not be in the squad at all. Our new algorithm now better analyzes a player’s profile for when they start or come off the bench, which we believe is still an important factor in determining a positive or negative matchup indicator. Some players almost always come off the bench when they don’t start, while others remain on the bench throughout. Additionally, some players actually perform better when they are used as a substitute as opposed to a starter. We believe the new Pick Scores will better reflect those situations.
Additionally, we have adjusted Pick Scores for capped mode competitions to more accurately reflect the player’s expected score, instead of a heavier weight on their score compared to their L15 cost. As a result, you can expect Pick Scores in capped mode competitions to be easier to understand, and the specifics of each competition will be reflected in our overall lineup strength indicators.
And finally, our Pick Scores are more relevant and helpful to all SorareData members with the most accurate and plentiful lineup projections. We are also actively working on improvements there, which you will see in the near future, based on feedback from the community. If you would like to contribute to the projections, you can visit the Lineup projections tab on our Gameweek center or simply submit your projection using the Advanced tab on the Lineup Builder, on any player page on SorareData.
